Isla Mujeres Isla Mujeres, which in english means "Women Island", was the name given by the Conquistadors. Its is said they named it this way, because they saw thousands of women statutes. Legends tell that Mayan women would cross the channel to give birth on the island. Today, "Isla" as locals call it, remains unspoiled, without massive transportation, no airport and with inhabitants living by fishing and welcoming tourists coming from the mainland. At the south end of Isla Mujeres, you can find vestiges of a temple built by Mayans to honor their goddess Ixchel, and the sculpture garden where you can enjoy the view of the Mexican Caribbean.Treat yourself to the best snorkeling adventure at Garrafon Reef, at one of the most stunning reefs in the world with great water activities: swim with the dolphins and take a kayak ride. Isla Mujeres offeres golf-cart rides through downtown, shooping, amazing scuba diving, white-sand beaches, restaurants and bars with ocean view that you will trully enjoy.
