Tips for travelers

In order to maintain the high standards of Mexican airports, the visitors tax has been reinstated. The tax is approximately $15.00 USD or $20.00 CD. This fee must be paid upon your departure. If you have booked a package through a tour operator, please be sure to ask if the departure tax or visitors tax is included.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping to ensure that Mexican airports continue to provide a safe and enjoyable travel experience for all visitors.

The currency in Mexico is the Peso. US Dollars are accepted everywere you may not need to bring pesos.  Buy pesos at the airport will cost a lot as they offer a very low exchange rate.

While you may exchange US dollars or Canadian dollars at your hotel reception, you are likely to get a better exchange rate at a bank or an exchange house (Casa de Cambio). US dollars are widely accepted in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa Del Carmen and all turistic areas of Mexico, but paying in pesos is generally  a good option sometimes particularly if you go to small towns.

By exchanging your money at a bank or exchange house, you can ensure that you are getting the most out of your hard-earned cash. Additionally, some businesses may offer discounts or other incentives for paying in pesos.

So, while it may be convenient to exchange your money at your hotel, it is worth taking the time to find a better rate. In the long run, you will be glad you did.

Vacations are a time for relaxation and indulgence, but they can also be a time for our bodies to adjust to new surroundings. Often, our eating and drinking habits are different from what we are used to at home, and the change in weather and altitude can also take a toll.

To help your body adjust to its temporary environment, it is important to take it easy on the first day of your vacation. Drink plenty of fluids, and avoid overindulging in alcohol or heavy foods. If you are prone to headaches or stomach problems, it is a good idea to bring along your usual home remedies.

Mexico's stunning beaches are a haven for sunseekers and water enthusiasts alike. However, it is important to be aware of the potential dangers before taking a dip.

Unlike many other popular tourist destinations, lifeguards are not present on most Mexican beaches. As a result, it is crucial to exercise extreme caution when swimming. Avoid swimming alone, and always keep an eye on the waves, as they can be unpredictable.

In all beach destinations, water condition flags are posted. These flags provide important information about the safety of the water. Be sure to pay attention to these flags and follow their recommendations.

If you find yourself caught in a rip current, do not panic. Rip currents are powerful channels of water that can pull swimmers away from shore. The best way to escape a rip current is to swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the current. Once you are free of the current, you can then swim back to shore.

By following these safety tips, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable time at the beach.

Here are some additional tips for swimming safely in Mexico:

  1. Avoid swimming in areas with strong currents or waves.
  2. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid swimming in areas where there are boats or other watercraft.
  3. Do not swim if you have been drinking alcohol.
  4. If you are not a strong swimmer, stay close to shore.
  5. Wear a life jacket if you are not comfortable swimming.
